Wiesel in recent years
Wiesel has been all over the world and has recived many different rewards for his work. In December 2008, the Elie Wiesel Foundation for Humanity issued a press release stating that nearly all of the foundation's assets (approximately $15.2 million USD) had been lost through Bernard Madoff's investment firm, an experience he later spoke about at a Conde Nast roundtable.
Elie Wiesel attacked in 2007.
February 1, 2007 Elie Wiesel was attacked in a San Francisco hotel by 22-year-old Holocaust denier Eric Hunt. He tried to drag Wiesel into the room. Wiesel was not hurt and Eric fled the scene, he then bragged about it month later on a holocaust denial website. Eric Hunt was arrested and had multiple offenses.
