May 16,1944 the german army came in and deported Wiesel and the rest of the jewish community Sighet to Auschwitz Birkenau. Elie Wiesel's inmate number was "A-7713", and tattooed onto his left arm. He stayed with his father and they were sent to a work camp where Elie and his father was forced to work. On January 29, 1945 after a few weeks in the third concentration camp, Elie's father was shot by a Nazi because he was suffering from dysentery, starvation, and exhaustion. A few months later the camps were liberated on April 11th.
